From Jim Morrill @ the Charlotte Observer

In a rare and wide-ranging complaint, the N.C. State Bar has accused state Rep. Nick Mackey of “criminal acts” for failing to file four years of state and federal income tax returns.

The AP is reporting that secret testimony has been given to Congress by the Countrywide official who guided the mortgages through ... Both Senator Dodd and Senator Conrad have stated that they did not know at the time of their refinancing that they were getting special treatment.   Not so, according to this source .... Snippets:

Robert Feinberg, who worked in Countrywide's VIP section, told congressional investigators last month that the two senators were made aware that "who you know is basically how you're coming in here."

Last November's election was in many ways a high point. An energized electorate became engaged in a long and hard-fought campaign, and a young Senator captured the imagination of the nation.  Turnout was high.

Yet, on Election Day, an obscure incident in Philadelphia served instead as a low point, and the story that has since evolved from that incident would make fair-minded Americans everywhere cringe.  Individuals from the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense stood outside a Philadelphia polling place in uniforms, one of them swinging a nightstick, claiming to be providing security.  Witnesses later recounted the men using racial slurs and intimidating would-be voters.

For those of you not in the Raleigh area, the News and Observer is hot on the trail of this breaking story.

Don't ya' love this pic?

2006 re: Justice Alito ... "Well, I will be supporting the filibuster because I think Judge Alito, in fact, is somebody who is contrary to core American values, not just liberal values, you know."

2009 re: Judge Sotomayor ...."But what I hope is that we can avoid the political posturing and ideological brinksmanship that has bogged down this process, and Congress, in the past."

So it seems that Jerimee Richir, until last week the online communications director for the NCDP, spent four years as a leader of ACORN.

Does anyone else find it less than surprising that he would resort to misrepresentations after spending so much time with ACORN?

Raleigh - Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and House Republican Leader Paul Stam (R-Wake) today renewed their call for legislative committee hearings on the ‘lost' Highway Patrol travel records and creation and funding of the Mary Easley job at NC State.

Senator Berger today sent letters to the Chairs of the Senate Appropriations Committee requesting that hearings be scheduled for the purpose of examining and gathering information on those issues.

The latest request follows several weeks in which Republican leaders have urged Democratic state leaders to investigate and take action on potentially serious corruption allegations about Gov. Easley and his wife, Mary. To date, state level elected Democrats have refused to comment or provide leadership on these matters.
