Up in Washington, Congressman Bob Etheridge just voted to increase our debt by $1.9 trillion. Then just like a Washington politician, Congressman Etheridge promised he’s now going to balance the budget by supporting the Democrats ‘new pay as you go law.’ “Today’s passage,” Etheridge opined, “of Statutory PAYGO is one of the most important actions Congress has taken towards…restoring a balanced federal budget.” (2/5/10) Pure Moonshine. Since 2007, the Nancy Pelosi Congress has had a ‘Paygo rule’ and Congressman Etheridge voted to waive it time and again to increase the debt nearly $1.3trillion. Does anyone doubt history will repeat itself? In fact, Congressman Etheridge’s new version of ‘Paygo’ is written for evasion. Hundreds of billions in spending and tax cuts are exempt, and any other spending the Pelosi Congress wants can be added to the debt by designating it an emergency. Washington politics is based on deception. And after 35 years in office, Bob Etheridge is a past master. On one hand he votes to increase the debt by $1.9 trillion – then he comes home and tells folks he’s passed a plan to balance the budget.
